County study of La Crosse area law enforcement to be finished soon
A special committee on police activity in La Crosse appears close to completing its mission.
Chair Tara Johnson of La Crosse County’s Study Committee on Policing is hoping to have recommendations ready within a couple of months, by early April. The panel started meeting nine months ago.
Johnson has a few goals in mind, such as improving education for police training, and getting more community involvement in law enforcement.
A final report could pave the way toward a more permanent committee to provide oversight on police activities. Johnson says there’s no limit yet on how many recommendations could be made.
