Today is no federal holiday, so get to work

It’s Monday, so back to work we go. But does it have to be this way? We just enjoyed a weekend filled with football, food and friends. It is estimated about half of all Americans watched the final game of the NFL season yesterday. Many hosted or went to Super Bowl parties, and perhaps even had too much fun. It is an American tradition. But despite how much we invest in the game or the parties, we still have to go to work today. Some suggest the day after the Super Bowl should be a federal holiday. Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen. But it makes sense. The day after the Super Bowl is already one of the least productive days, with nearly 19 million Americans calling in sick today. Those who do show up will no doubt be wasting the boss’s time talking about the game or the commercials. The federal government have enacted 12 federal holidays, and according to a poll, a majority would prefer to work on Presidents Day or Columbus Day than the day after the Super Bowl. Another option would be to move the Super Bowl to Saturday. That way would get to sleep in after the big game. Either way, it makes sense that we get to enjoy the big game and not have to set your alarm for the next morning.
