A driver arrested after a Monday night standoff on Mormon Coulee Road in La Crosse is asking to be released from jail, to attend his father’s funeral.

Peter Green of Prairie du Chien is facing new charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing police after Monday’s incident near Shelby Mall.

Judge Scott Horne set Green’s bond at $2,500 cash, noting that Green already has seven open court cases in La Crosse and Crawford Counties.

Green said in court Tuesday that he doesn’t have any money to post bond, and “I’m not gonna make my dad’s funeral, I’m not gonna get to bury my father.”

The judge wants Green to present verification of his father’s death. Green said a Prairie du Chien funeral home posted a death notice online.

In court, Green disputed another charge of domestic abuse of a woman he said is his girlfriend.

“Everybody looks at these cases and stuff like, I’m like this monster, and I’m not,” he said.

Green appeared by video link from the county jail, and throughout the hearing, he was distracted by someone shouting loudly from a nearby cell. Another hearing is set for Friday.
