You could call it a modern version of “A League of Their Own.”

The Northwoods Baseball League, which includes the La Crosse Loggers, is putting together a similar women’s softball league.

Loggers owner Dan Kapanke made that announcement to the La Crosse park board on Thursday, with the suggestion that La Crosse’s Logger Field could become home to a franchise in a women’s league of college softball players.

The Loggers joined the Northwoods League, which has farm clubs for minor league baseball teams, in 2003. Twenty-five college baseball players who were on the Loggers roster in recent years eventually moved up to the major leagues.
