Company Store land to be developed for housing; RV parking turned down by La Crosse city committee
A plan to use former Company Store property on the pike between La Crosse and La Crescent for parking recreational vehicles has been turned down by a La Crosse city panel.
The proposal for temporary winter storage of RVs on a Park Plaza site has been opposed by neighboring property owners. Also, city staffers favor using the land for residential development.
Monday, the La Crosse City Plan Commission denied the zoning for parking, mainly because the land is supposed to be sold to a new owner within a couple of weeks.
Allan McCormick of La Crescent told the committee that he’s about to close a deal with the Pretasky family to buy that land.
“I have a contract to purchase this property in about two weeks,” McCormick said. “When we negotiated that purchase, they asked if they could park the campers on the very south end of the lot. That would come right up to the parking lot for the Pettibone campground.”
The zoning request comes up again Tuesday night, before the city council Judiciary and Administration Committee, which would make a recommendation to the full council for next week.
