Ft. McCoy says it brings in $2.5 billion a year in economic benefit to the area

Monroe County’s military base had an economic impact of $2.5 billion on the region last year. 

Fort McCoy reports the fiscal 2022 contribution was about $600 million higher than the year before. 

The fort says 77,000 troops trained there between October of 2021 and last September.

The report says the troops help local businesses and the La Crosse Regional Airport, where many of them fly in and out of in their travels.

Fort McCoy also had 1,300 civilian employees, during the fiscal year, along with 586 military workers and over 500 contract employees, according to the report. 

It also states that the more than $40 million in military construction on the base also helped the area’s economy.
