Minnesota House Rep. Gene Pelowski of Winona joined La Crosse Talk PM on Wednesday to discuss some of the initiatives the state is debating and putting forward with a $17 billion budget surplus, including free school meals, public school funding and legalizing marijuana/sports gambling.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Minnesota flipped to full Democratic control this past election and Pelowski, a Democrat that was first elected in 1986, noted that there are now over 2,700 bills going through the part-time Legislature that has until May to siphon threw them.

Some of the other proposed legislation has to do with a public option for health care, banning PFAS “forever chemicals,” childcare funding and paid sick leave.

Give all the Damm money back to the tax payers, in stead of throwing down the toilet, take Sociale Security off from having to pay taxes on it

Marijuana legalization is one of the great disconnects in this country.
A war has been waged against smoking for decades.
The health risks are well documented.
We cannot have those same studies for marijuana since it is federally banned.
However, scientists have been stating the effects of smoking marijuana are worse medically.
Follow the science unless it is inconvenient to do so.
