There are three chances for basketball teams from La Crosse County to bring home gold trophies from the boys’ state tourney this week.  Teams from La Crosse Central (23-5), West Salem (27-1), and Onalaska Luther (26-2) have all qualified for state in different divisions.

Luther’s Thursday opponent in Division 4 will be Whitehall (22-6), while Central faces Whitnall (24-3) in Division 2 on Friday.  To tell those opposing teams apart, Whitehall is in Trempealeau County, and Whitnall is from Milwaukee County.  In Division 3, West Salem will also play a Southeast Wisconsin team, in their Thursday game against the Milwaukee Academy of Science.

Central’s last state title in boys basketball came in 2017. Neither Luther nor West Salem has a WIAA state championship for boys basketball.
