Horne named as chief judge for courts in 15 counties of western Wisconsin

The next chief judge of western Wisconsin courts will be from La Crosse County. 

The State Supreme Court has appointed Judge Scott Horne to serve as chief judge in the 7th Judicial District, effective in August. 

Grant County Judge Robert Van De Hey now holds the chief judge title in the district, but he’s retiring from the bench this summer.  As chief judge, Horne will help manage court cases in a 15-county region of Wisconsin.

Horne has been a circuit judge since 2007, following 22 years as La Crosse’s district attorney.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
