Three hours free parking ends in most downtown La Crosse parking ramps

The three hours of free parking in most downtown La Crosse ramps ends Monday.

Drivers will now be charged $1 an hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with an $8 max.

That ends a 20-year tradition of free parking for three hours before having to pay for a space.

Free parking at night and on weekends will continue at all of those ramps.

A report to city leaders issued last year found that allowing three hours of free parking during the day was depriving the city about $13,000 a year in potential revenue, which could be used to pay those who monitor the ramps.

The new schedule applies to the four ramps at the La Crosse Center, Market Square, Main Street and Pine Street.

The Riverside Ramp, directly south of the Center, allows free parking at all times.

Thank you city of LaCrosse! It used to be a time I enjoyed visiting the beauty of Riverside Park, the breathtaking bluffs and the charm of the old buildings of downtown, but no more. I had the opportunity to visit the Trump rally last night, we were rushed by cars behind us so we didn’t get the opportunity to fully read the ONE sign that we saw describing parking rules. Why would I want to download an App on my phone to park?? We assumed we would pay as we left, you know, the way it used to be? And not living in that God forsaken liberal crap hole, we don’t keep up on the various winds of change that blows through the city counsel. We went to the town hall and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves to come back to our car to find a ticket. Really? After reading the ticket we found there were kiosks in the parking lot? Really? We walked down 4 flights of stairs and out the door to the LaCrosse center- no kiosk that we saw. Later while waiting the hour to get out we struck up a conversation with the driver of the car next to us. Yes he saw the officer give us the ticket and supposed he would get one too. NO the officer said, “you are sitting in your car”. Really?? He was parked there nearly as long as us yet he got no ticket because he was in his car. And yes, on our way out we did see the elusive kiosk. Nice LaCrosse, good to see you are being fiscally responsible to pay off those new, expensive parking enforcement vehicles. Oh, I also can’t fail to mention the $1.50 fee to pay the ticket on line. Liberals ALWAYS ruin everything they touch. Shall we discuss the absolute waste of the bike lanes??? And how did the LaCrosse center get away with installing stairways in that VERY expensive remodel that only allows 1 person to ascend and descend from the ground and 1st floor?? I shudder to think what would happen in an emergency.
