La Crosse area citizens would have to make a significant drive to provide input at the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee’s public input sessions on the upcoming state budget.

For those who can’t make that drive, Democratic Assembly Rep. Jill Billings and two members of the Joint Finance Committee will be hosting a listening session at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Main Street Library.

Last week on La Crosse Talk PM, Billings talked about some of the issues that could come up dealing with the state budget, including the UW-L Prairie Springs Science Center project and the state’s $7.1 billion surplus.

Those members are Assembly Reps. Evan Goyke and Tip McGuire will also be at the meeting.

The two-year budget is being crafted by Republicans through likely the end of July. That budget also includes a $7.1 billion surplus.

The committee will meet from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday at UW-Eau Claire and those same times Wednesday at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The fourth and final meeting is happening in Minocqua.

The first official hearing on the upcoming budget was held last week in Waukesha.
