A head-on crash in Buffalo County has killed two teenagers who were in a van that collided with a jeep.

The accident happened early Monday night on County Road M in the Town of Buffalo.

One of the vehicles crossed the center line, but investigators don’t know which vehicle went into the other lane.

Three teens were in the van. A 15-year-old girl was dead at the scene, and a 16-year-old boy was later declared dead at a hospital, while an older boy also went to the hospital.

The jeep was driven by a 51-year-old woman who was alone in the vehicle, and had minor injuries. One person in the van had to be freed using air bags.

High speed and the failure to wear seatbelts are considered factors in the injuries and deaths.

It was the first fatal highway crash of the year in Buffalo County, where there were two traffic deaths in both 2021 and ’22.
