Volunteers needed for a fun-filled Neighbors Day with Habitat for Humanity
The family-friendly event helps neighbors who need assistance cleaning up their yards for spring.
Spring is in the air, mixed with a lot of summer feel this week.
Perhaps you’ve already been out to clean up the yard after the snow melted. For some area residents, that’s no easy task. That’s why Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area has its annual Neighbors Day.
The family-friendly, active, outdoor event brings people together for a common good, helping elderly and disabled neighbors get their yards ready for spring.
Volunteers will team up to rake leaves, turn garden beds, wash windows, and trim shrubs.
Last year, over 400 people volunteered at over 200 homes, bringing much needed help to neighbors throughout the city.
Kahya Fox, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area, told Z93 that they’re planning to bring in 500 volunteers.
Neighbors Day will be held on from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 22 at Myrick Park Center. Tools, materials and a free lunch will be provided.
Fox said it’s one of the easiest volunteer opportunities in La Crosse.
“You show up, we’ll feed you breakfast for free, get you caffeinated, give you the projects, tell you exactly what you need to do,” Fox said. “We give you all the tools to do it, and send you on your merry way, and then we invite you back for a free lunch before we send you back out to finish your projects.”
It’s also a great volunteer activity for groups. Faith communities, organizations, businesses, and other groups can put their own teams together and invite their friends, family, and co-workers to join using a unique sign-up link.
Register as a recipient of Neighbors Day, through end of day Thursday, or sign up to volunteer through next week. For more info and sign ups, click here, call (608) 673-5678, or email info@habitatlacrosse.org.
