UW-L wresting coach Dave Malecek tweeted Sunday, “Lost a great young man last night. RIP Billy Mayer. Love you.”

Speculation is Mayer died in a motorcycle accident on Saturday.

Mayer was a three-time all-American at 285 pounds and finished his UW-L career 38th all-time in wins with a 76-29-0 record (2009-2013).

He finished sixth at Nationals in 2011, fifth in 2012 and third in 2013. He is one of eight UW-L wrestlers to win a conference championship at 285.

Mayer is from the Town of Eden, near Fond du Lac, Wis. He went to Campbellsport High School, where he won state as a senior and was runner-up junior year, finishing his high school career 110-14.
