City of La Crosse to shorten hours for yard waste disposal site
The seven-day-a-week schedule for brush and yard waste disposal in La Crosse is about to get shorter, as city residents start cleaning their yards for the spring.
As of May 6, the disposal site on Isle La Plume will be closed Wednesdays through Fridays.
Otherwise, the site will open at 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekends and 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
The change will allow the city to reassign some staffers to other duties.
City employees also cite reduced demand during the week, but will maintain Monday and Tuesday hours for businesses to drop off waste and brush.
The La Crosse board of public works approved the changes at its meeting Monday.

I wish this decision on what days to close the yard waste recycling yard would have been presented to the community and to those of us who use the facility every week. Many people do their mowing toward the end of the week so their yards are nice for the weekend and now there is no place to take the grass clippings. At least Wed or Thur would have been nice to have it open yet. Any chance of ever changing this? What happened to the young guys who had some special needs that loved working at the recycle yard? At least they were willing to work, unlike the homeless that won’t even try to work.
