A memorial service held every April in La Crosse is being moved to a different site this week, because the usual riverfront location is getting flooded.

The Workers Memorial Day ceremony, always scheduled for April 28th, will happen Friday afternoon at Chad Erickson Park, near the Trane Company headquarters.

The traditional site for the event is outside the Green Island Ice Arena, which sits along the rising Mississippi River.

The La Crosse service to honor people who died on the job was held again in person last year, after two years of going virtual because of COVID-19.

The memorial ceremony will begin Friday at 5 p.m., and is expected to include the traditional planting of crosses to honor area individuals whose deaths were at work, or work-related.
