UPDATE: River still closing in on 16 foot crest prediction for La Crosse

The Mississippi is expected to crest at an even 16 feet in La Crosse late Wednesday night or early Thursday. It would be only the third time on record that the river has reached 16 feet in La Crosse.

Wednesday afternoon, the river level was up to 15.89 feet, about half a foot below the second-highest crest on record, from 2001.

The river is now expected to drop back down to 15 feet by Sunday, and 14 feet by the middle of next week.
