Family YMCA introduces new van to bring “Y on the Fly” to the Coulee Region
It’s less than 30 class days until school gets out for some kids in the region.
Families planning summer activities may get some help from the Family Y of La Crosse, which is introducing a new van to deliver meals and other services to homes.
“We are going to be serving food every day, and then focusing on three other main focuses, which are physical wellness, mental health, and education or enrichment,” said Courtney Kramolis, who runs the food program for the local Y.
The La Crosse Community Foundation provided roughly $46,000 for the van, to conduct the new nationwide “Y on the Fly” program in area towns.
Foundation CEO Jamie Schloegel was on hand for a ribbon-cutting for the van at La Crosse’s Y on Wednesday. Schloegel says “when the school year ends, the YMCA and its incredible staff can be out in the communities, serving the kids and families who need help and don’t have the ability to get to the Y.”
Besides delivering food to communities, the van also will transport equipment for outdoor activities, and educational materials.
