La Crosse County jobless rate of 1.9% one of lowest in Wisconsin
Parts of Wisconsin are seeing some all-time lows in unemployment, according to March figures from Madison.
The workforce development office says the jobless rates went down or stayed steady in every county, over the past month. Menominee and Outagamie Counties tied or set record lows for unemployment.
La Crosse County’s rate of 1.9 per cent is among the lowest in the state, lower than in all but four counties–Dane, Calumet, Ozaukee, and Sheboygan. The city of La Crosse is at an even 2 per cent, down from 2.5 a year ago.
Monroe and Vernon Counties also have jobless rates below 3 per cent. Dane County leads the state with the lowest jobless rate at 1.6 per cent.
Only 4 Wisconsin counties have unemployment of 5 per cent or more. The DWD says the La Crosse-Onalaska area had 78,900 people working in March, down 100 from February, but up from 77,000 a year ago.
DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek says her agency will work to remove barriers to unemployment, such as childcare and transportation needs.
