“Headmistress” horror movie, shot in Wisconsin, being shown in La Crosse
Want to see a scary movie, made in southern Wisconsin?
A film called ‘The Headmistress” is showing for a week in La Crosse, with a local premiere Thursday night at the Rivoli, starting at 7:30 p.m. Beginning Friday, the film moves to the Marcus Cinema on Ward Avenue.
Co-writer Jay Sapiro tells WIZM’s La Crosse Talk says he and his writing partner Chris Micklos shot the picture four years ago, in a short hectic span of just 11 days, “making sure that we got everything that we needed, getting everything in the specific amount of time that we had available to us to shoot.”
“We shot at an abandoned nunnery out in Oconomowoc,” Sapiro said. “Chris and I stayed at that abandoned nunnery with the principal cast.”
Micklos directed the movie as well, which has already been shown at theaters in Los Angeles and San Francisco. “It’s just been a process of knocking on doors,” he said, “making contact with people, trying to, especially here in Wisconsin, talk to folks like at the Rivoli about the concept that people will probably want to come see an indie film made here in Wisconsin.”
‘The Headmistress” tells the story of characters battling a supernatural force inside an abandoned inn.
