La Crosse committee votes to shrink itself, to avoid absences

One La Crosse city committee may be downsized, because it has had trouble getting enough members to attend the meetings.

The city’s Racial Equity Team could be reduced from a panel of 14 members to 10, as a result of a vote by the city council Judiciary and Administration Committee on Tuesday.

A resolution before the council said the equity team, formed three years ago, consistently is unable to draw enough members to meetings in order to conduct business.

Team members decided unanimously in February to reduce the group’s size.

The committee originally had seven members, but the panel chose to double its size in 2021. The Racial Equity group currently has two vacant seats.

The full council considers the reduction next week.

Is this committee the desire of a bunch of busybodies in search of a stirring up controversies that are little to none in existence? Maybe they can’t get enough to get together because there’s not enough of a problem for people to waste their time.
