As I See It
Our system of justice at work
But what about Hilary’s laptop? That is one of the refrains of critics of the indictment of former President Donald Trump as he heads to court today, the first U.S. President to be indicted. Critics say the Biden administration is weaponizing the Justice Department to take down Trump. But that is not what is happening today. President Biden didn’t indict Trump. Even Attorney General Merrick Garland didn’t bring criminal charges. Neither did the media, or the Boogeyman. Trump was indicted by a grand jury in Florida, where he will face the federal charges. But what about Hilary’s laptop? Didn’t she have classified documents? Yes. And the investigations showed that while she was sloppy, no laws were violated. But didn’t Joe Biden have classified documents too? Yes. But when discovered, Biden cooperated and returned them. So did Mike Pence. Trump is accused of lying about possessing classified documents, sharing the information they contained, and blocking efforts to retrieve them. According to court documents, Trump is even on tape admitting trying to cover up his crimes. It is the alleged obstruction that led to the 37 charges against him. Let’s not forget, like any other American accused of a crime, Trump is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Exactly the way our justice system is supposed to work.

Just imagine if Trump had his aides destroyed a government phone with a hammer. What are the chances they’d say “he acted carelessly, but not enough evidence to call it a crime”. Trump refused to turn over documents? What if he “bleached” 3,000 emails out of existence?
