BY THE NUMBERS: From La Crosse and Onalaska to Campbell and Rockland — a look at local funding increases, after shared revenue plan passes
Below are the increases in funding local governments will get, after a shared revenue plan was agreed upon Wednesday in the Wisconsin state Legislature.
La Crosse will see the lowest funding increase by far, at just 20%. Campbell was second-lowest with a 32.9% increase.
Hamilton will see the largest increase in state funding at 254.4%, while Medary was second-highest (217.3%).
The city of Onalaska will see an increase in funding by 89.5%.
The local aid — known as shared revenue — adds up to about $1.6 billion. It will be paid for by tapping 20% of the state’s 5-cent sales tax. Aid would then grow along with sales tax revenue.
Combined in both the Wisconsin state Senate and Assembly, the legislation saw 12 Republicans vote against it and 19 Democrats vote for it, including both Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) and Rep. Jill Billings (D-La Crosse).
Funding to local governments has actually decreased in the last 30 years, including cuts in 2004, 2010 and 2012.
The increases below are localities in Senate District 32, shared by state Sen. Brad Pfaff’s office. Read more about the deal here, which includes education funding increases.
