A 32-year-old La Crosse driver has been accused of hitting a pedestrian on George Street last Friday night.

Kody Knudtson faces a charge of hit-and-run, causing great bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, if convicted.

A criminal complaint states Knudtson called county dispatch on Monday to turn himself in.

He said he was driving about 10 to 20 miles an hour in the 1700 block of George on the night of June 23, when a male ran onto the street, stopped and then ran into his car.

The pedestrian had injured several parts of their body. He told police he didn’t see any cars coming when he started walking across the street.

Knudtson said he panicked and left the scene after the accident.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in court Monday.
