La Crosse drive-by shooting suspect still searching for lawyer
The La Crosse man accused of a drive-by shooting on 3rd Street can qualify for a public defender.
That’s what a judge has ruled in the case of DeAndrew Grant, who’s charged with shooting and wounding seven people around 2:30 a.m. June 17.
Judge Scott Horne says 69 attorneys have been contacted, as the county attempts to find a defender for Grant.
Horne said in court Wednesday that it might be easier to provide a public defender soon, if state lawmakers approve funding for that office in the current state budget.
Grant is facing almost 30 criminal charges, including attempted murder, for the shooting.
Police believe Grant fired the shots from a car, which was going the wrong direction on 3rd, just minutes after getting into a fight with someone on the scene.
His next court hearing is on July 13.
