A new circuit judge has been appointed for La Crosse County.

Attorney Mark Huesmann will succeed Branch 3 Judge Todd Bjerke, who’s retiring at the end of the month. Governor Evers announced Huesmann’s appointment on Thursday.

Huesmann has been a court commissioner since Bjerke became a judge 16 years ago, and also has served as municipal court judge for the region. He’s also a professor with the UWL College of Business.

Todd Bjerke has served as a La Crosse County judge since 2007

An election will be held in April 2024 for voters to choose a full-time judge for Branch 3.

Bjerke announced this past April that he would be retiring, with two years left in his term. He was one of three current La Crosse County judges first elected in the spring of 2007, along with Scott Horne and Elliott Levine.
