This month marks two years since a triple murder occurred at a quarry near West Salem, Wis., but the case is far from closed — even though one suspect has already been through a trial.

The June trial of Nya Thao ended with the jury unable to agree on a verdict, and no new trial date has been set.

Thao remains in the county jail, under a $1 million bond. A hearing is scheduled later this month on whether to reduce his bond.

Co-defendant Kham Rattanasack testified at the Thao trial, and was supposed to have a brief hearing this coming week, but that court date has been postponed until August.

A plea hearing for Rattanasack had been scheduled in May of this year, but that was called off.

The three victims, Peng Lor, Nemo Yang, and Trevor Maloney, were shot to death at the quarry on July 23, 2021, allegedly over a debt of $600.
