A one-time grant program is being put together for child care providers in La Crosse County.

The county board has heard details of the plan, which would provide $500,000 in grants to licensed care-givers within the county.

Charlotte Peters from UW-Extension said some child care programs would have an advantage in applying for money.

“Special consideration will be given to providers outside of the city of La Crosse,” Peters told county supervisors Monday.

Grants of up to $25,000 would be available through the program. There will soon be a publicity campaign to explain more about them.

Peters said small-business owners seeking grants would have a one-month period to file their requests.

A screening group would review the applications, and send the best proposals on to a committee for approval.
