When the UW Board of Regents came to La Crosse last week, the chancellor of UWL got to brag a little about the local campus.

Joe Gow spoke during the regents’ conference, and noted the high ranking that the La Crosse school has received from a major magazine.

“UWL is the number one public university of Wisconsin with fewer than 25,000 students, ” said Gow, quoting a ranking made by U.S. News and World Report.

Gow thanked the staff of UWL for helping make the high rating possible. He also announced that freshman enrollment for this fall, just over 2300, has already passed the record set a year ago.

“I always ask, how we doin’ today?” says Gow. On the day of his speech, he said last year’s freshman class size was 2308. “This year, 2309. So we’re on pace to do another record class.”
