La Crosse Fire Department shows off new $7.3 million station to public
Three fire response vehicles will be kept at the new firehouse
La Crosse’s first new fire station since 1967 opened its doors to the public Thursday.
Fire Station No. 2 on La Crosse Street hosted an open house, about a month after officially opening.
The new building replaces a fire house on Monitor Street, which had been used since 1957.
It will be the new department headquarters, which had been at Station No. 1 at 5th and Market streets for decades.
The new station will be home to seven firefighters, along with three fire trucks.
Ground was broken in April of 2022 for the building, which cost around $7.3 million. It is located next to Coate Hall on the UW-La Crosse campus.
Meanwhile, a ceremony marking the start of construction for a new Gillette Street fire station is scheduled for next week.
