Apartment plan for old K-Mart site in La Crosse still in the works, but delayed

A new housing development near the bluffs in La Crosse was supposed to be under construction or even partly open by now, at the former K-Mart site on State Road. But the economy seems to have put the “Copper Rocks” project on hold.

The Three Sixty Real Estate company says rising building costs and supply problems have delayed the actual building of a 200-unit complex, which would offer apartments of various sizes from studios to 3-bedroom apartments. The company is waiting to set a date for ground-breaking.

The old K-Mart along Losey Boulevard has been empty since 2017

Building plans for the Copper Rocks development were publicly unveiled in January of last year. The name Copper Rocks was inspired by the glow of the setting sun on the bluffs near the development site.

Three Sixty Real Estate says that no changes have been made to the project, for which construction was to start in 2022. K-Mart opened its store along Losey and State Road in 1965, and closed it in 2017.
