He gets a bit political, as part of his act. Comedian Steve Hofstetter will perform Wednesday night at the Cavalier Theater in downtown La Crosse.

Last week, he called into La Crosse Talk PM, where we let him know he was live on the air right off the bat.

“Thank you for letting me know I was on the air, because I was about to unload a string of F-bombs,” Hofstetter joked. “So, I really appreciate the heads up, as does the FCC — that’s what the F stands for.”

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

We asked Hofstetter, a Pennsylvania native, if he wanted the rundown of some of Wisconsin’s political landscape, and his answer was hilarious and spot on.

“Well, here’s what I hate,” Hofstetter said. “I don’t live there and I already know what’s been happening, because that’s how bad it is.”

Hofstetter’s videos have over a billion views on Facebook and YouTube. Some of those are of his comebacks at hecklers, who often don’t agree with his views.

His shows also include a Q&A with the audience, so those who attend, be prepared to ask him a good question.

Perhaps a question could be about what it’s like to wear a dress in a state that bans drag shows.

Hofstetter may be best known recently making headlines for wearing a dress on stage in Tennessee to support the LGBTQ+ community. It was Republicans in Tennessee that had just signed a law that put limits on public drag shows.

One of the topics discussed on the show was legalizing marijuana, as Hofstetter was calling from Canada and heading to Minnesota, before stopping in Wisconsin. Canada, as a country has legalized recreational marijuana and Minnesota legalizes in Aug. 1.

That legalization was one of many things passed by Democrats in the state, after they took full control of the Minnesota’s government and also passed free school lunches for students.

Hofstetter pointed out the irony of those two things getting passed.

The problem is, once you legalize marijuana, you have to have free school lunches,” Hofstetter said, “because the kids are going to be hungry because the parents are eating all the food.”

Hofstetter also talked about what he’s seen with legalization on his road trips.

“Missouri just legalized it and they have no idea what they’re doing,” Hofstetter said. “In illinois, right over the border, where it’s been legal for awhile, you go into a dispensary and it looks like an Apple store. And in Missouri, it looks like some guy’s tie dye basement. They have not caught up yet. It is wild to see. So I wonder how long it will take Minnesota to go from basement to business, because it takes a bit.”

Doors open at the Cavalier on Fifth Street, in downtown, at 7 p.m. Show begins at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $30 online, plus a $6 transaction fee.
