This weekend marked two years since a triple murder at a quarry near West Salem, in which three young men were shot to death. A suspect in the shootings will have a new court hearing soon, as he awaits another trial.

Nya Thao was tried in June for the July 23rd, 2021 deaths of three men, Peng Lor, Nemo Yang, and Trevor Maloney, reportedly over a debt of $600. The La Crosse County jury was unable to reach a verdict at the week-long trial. Thao had been scheduled to appear in court last week, but his hearing has been set now for August 14th.

At that next hearing, Thao is expected to ask for a change in his one-million dollar cash bond. He’s being held in the county jail, waiting for a new trial to be scheduled. Another suspect, Kham Rattanasack, is scheduled for a status hearing in August as well.
