With Minnesota legalizing recreational marijuana, it’s likely that it will make its way to La Crosse, where driving under the influence could increase.

So, La Crosse Police Sgt. Danny Mandujano joined La Crosse Talk PM on Wednesday to discuss how police determine an OWI (Operating While Intoxicated), and if it’s harder to recognize if someone’s under the influence of drugs versus alcohol.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Mandujano is, what’s called, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). We talked a bit about his training to get that certification. We also discussed the day-to-day life of an officer. He leads a 12-hour night shift that begins at 5 p.m.
