Another special session, another chance for inaction
Here we go again. Wisconsin’s Governor has called the Legislature into a special session to address topics he argues are important for Wisconsin. And once again, legislators are likely to ignore the Governor’s call to action. This time, Tony Evers is telling lawmakers to return to Madison to take up issues such as a $1 billion workforce development package. He wants to spend more to support childcare providers, in an effort to address the state’s workforce shortage. He argues that if more people could afford childcare, they are more likely to remain in, or join, the state’s workforce. This is the 13th special session of the Legislature called by Evers, and each time Republicans who control the Legislature have held the meeting as required, but offered no debate, took no testimony, and never bothered to vote. They did so on issues such as gun control, cutting taxes, legalizing abortion, and increased school spending. I don’t know if more money for childcare is a good use of state tax dollars, or if it would help ease the worker shortage. But it certainly is worthy of debate. Those in support and those in opposition should be able to state their case, a vote should be conducted, and whichever side gets the most votes wins. Instead, our lazy lawmakers are likely to punt on calls to action in this special session as well.

It’s much better to NOT pass legislation, than to pass legislation we do not need passed. Why is it you only want the Republicans to give in, not the Democrats???

Child care is a national issue.
The legislature should take it up and pass some help to the industry.
Hell, of course, will freeze over before that happens.
The bigger question is why do they not take action to help state citizens fix the PFAS problem.
Their inaction on that issue is immoral.
I call them as I see them and let the child fall where they may.

Wisconsin has spent millions on the child care matter. What tangible results have been achieved? What tangible results have been achieved??
Maybe if inflation wasn’t so bad more mothers or fathers would be able to stay home with their children instead of having to work during those early childhood years.

Abortion is in the courts, gun control is a non-starter, Evers axed the tax cut, and school spending was already increased exponentially in the budget(if only results would follow funding).
The request for a special session is theater for the benefit of all the non-profits and other grifters looking to benefit from handling the largess. In session 10:00; adjourned 10:01. Perfect.
