We often talk about the doom and gloom of climate change, and we did Thursday on La Crosse Talk PM, with Dr. Tom Schlesinger, the executive director of La Crosse’s Climate Alliance for the Common Good. But also discussed, was how we, the “little guy,” can help make an impact to slow climate change.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

We hit on a little bit of everything from the oceans to El Nino (happening now) vs La Nina (happening next), to greenhouse gases. We even hit on how the big corporations are converting to more sustainable practices, not just out of the goodness of their hearts, but because it’s better business.

We capped off that discussion with how everyone else can get involved, and that’s where the Climate Alliance has put out a Small Business Toolkit, which we break down.

I guess the little guy has to compensate for the “John Kerry’s” of the world. I probably add less carbon to the atmosphere in a life time than he does in a year. Hard to take things serious when the leaders only want us to take it serious. One thing we all learned during the COVID scare, is that a lot of jobs can be done from home. Mr. Kerry and his ilk should’ve been paying attention.

Hard to take things serious when this ‘manufactured’ crisis cannot be impacted by you shutting off your lights, putting your car on blocks, eating bugs, going naked, turning off your AC….

To my knowledge, not one of our climate models shows any impact in the ‘global average’ temp by reducing carbon emissions. To my knowledge the carbon emissions and atomosphere levels, through the 2-3 years of the pandemic, with reduced fuel usage and global travel resulted in guess what, INCREASING CARBON levels in the atmosphere, how did that happen?

You can’t take the temperature of a stagnant body of water off the florida coast, or even within the florida coast, in the hot sun, and then say ‘the oceans are boiling’, you guys are killing me with comedy.

I would be very happy if all the folks crying for reduced petroleum usage, reduced fossil fuel usage would just quit traveling about, quit buying plastic stuff (you know phones, water bottles, dog bowls, soda bottles, cosmetics). Then they can quit traveling, quit clogging up the airways and train lines, you think these things are contributing to our demise, but where is the courage of your convictions….
