A residence hall at UWL which has had no large renovations since it opened will be shut down for two semesters next year, to get a $3 million makeover.

Wentz Hall opened in 1964. It will undergo ADA compliance improvements, including new accessible restrooms, and will get a new fire alarm system.

The state building commission approved the project this week, and construction will start after the fall semester. Wentz Hall is located directly north of the Truman Lowe Center for the Arts, within a group of four older dorms on campus.

The commission has okayed plans to build ADA-accessible bathrooms on all four floors of the dorm. Wentz will be open to students this fall, but it will be vacant during the spring and summer semesters, to allow for eight months of renovation work.
