Suspect in earlier summer crimes in La Crosse now accused of shoplifting liquor

An 18-year-old from La Crosse who’s already charged with other recent crimes is now facing new charges in court.

Kavi Compan is accused of retail theft for allegedly stealing two bottles of liquor from Festival Foods on the Causeway.

A criminal complaint says security cameras in the store photographed Compan on July 3rd, hiding two bottles of Crown Royal in a backpack. He then brought another bottle to a cashier to say he didn’t want to buy it, and left the store. The liquor was valued at about $44.

Compan was previously charged this summer, along with his father, with beating an elderly neighbor who allegedly hit Compan’s young brother with a rock. The teenager also is accused of stealing a woman’s van and driving it into the river.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
