September has begun, so it’s time for most young people in school to return to the classroom.

La Crosse public schools welcomed students back on Friday morning. School superintendent Aaron Engel went to Spence Elementary to greet kids and their parents, alongside the new principal of Spence, Dana Eide.

Just recently arrived from the Blair-Taylor district, Eide says the first day of class at Spence is a big event for her as well as for the kids.

“So, finally getting to this day is really exciting,” said Eide. “It’s time to bring in the students and get this year going. We’re ready, we want them to feel ready and excited, and we’ve done a lot of work to get to that point.”

This fall, Hamilton School in La Crosse gets back to a normal class schedule, after experimenting with year-round classes for a decade. La Crosse still has one year-round school, Northside Elementary.
