Old Style returns to the “world’s largest six pack,” at City Brewery in La Crosse
La Crosse’s giant six pack, the big beer tanks at City Brewery on 3rd Street, are returning to their ‘old style,’ literally.
On Wednesday morning, a crew began installing new covers on what’s known as the world’s largest six pack.
The covers feature the current design of Old Style beer cans, restoring the original look of the tanks from the Heileman brewery days. Old Style originated in La Crosse.
City Brewery recently received permission from the city to put the Old Style logo on the tanks again, with Old Style production returning to La Crosse, after being shut down in 1999. That’s when Pabst acquired the brand from Stroh.
It’s part of a deal in which Pabst Brewing is shifting some of its production to City Brewery. Old Style is expected to be brewed exclusively in La Crosse before the end of the year.
The six-pack was most recently decorated in the style of La Crosse Lager cans, before that design was removed.
