Enrollment at UW-La Crosse dips slightly, as numbers in UW System goes up
The number of students in the University of Wisconsin System has risen slightly for the first time in nine years.
The total fall enrollment at the 13 UW campuses grew by 540 students and is now above 161,000.
Eight of the campuses experienced declines, including UW-La Crosse, but it had the smallest drop — down only 25 students from a year ago. The university was also coming off back-to-back record freshmen classes the past two years.
At an estimate of 10,232 students, UW-L has the fifth-highest enrollment in the system, behind Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh and Whitewater.
The estimate obtained on the 10th day of the fall semester shows a drop of .2 percent in La Crosse, the smallest decline in the system.
The largest percentage drop was 3.5 percent at Stout. The biggest increase by percentage came at Whitewater, followed closely by Platteville and Stevens Point, all seeing increases over 3 percent.
