Extension for replacement of former K-Mart approved by La Crosse plan commission

A delay in new construction at the old K-Mart lot off Losey Boulevard has been approved by La Crosse’s city plan commission.

The Three Sixty Real Estate company has cited a rise in construction costs as a major reason for seeking an 18-month extension on the project, which was originally announced in early 2022. The company says it is hoping to see expenses go down, and interest in new housing go up.

Three Sixty had already delayed construction for more than a year before seeking an extension. The K-Mart lot would be redeveloped for residential and commercial use.

Plans for a development called Copper Rocks have been proposed for the K-Mart site

Council member Jennifer Trost is eager to see something happen with the former box store, which she calls a “poor old, sad empty building.”

The K-Mart on Losey closed six years ago, and has been mostly vacant since then. The proposed delay now goes before a La Crosse city council committee.

    This is ridiculous. At least require the demolition. Same 360 wanting to build 100 units by Mayo. And with new units coming to the Tribune site and the Mobil site, the market is not going to get stronger in 18 months. This was all about tying up that site so a competitor of Festival wouldn’t acquire it. But what 360 wants it gets.
