It’s the last trip down the Mississippi River for the big cruise boats that stop in La Crosse.

Monday’s day-long stop for the Viking Mississippi was the 12th visit scheduled in 2023 by the company on La Crosse’s riverfront, completing the second year of trips to the Coulee Region.

The American Countess and American Queen paddlewheelers have already made their last stops in La Crosse until next year.

The 2023 season also saw large crowds in La Crosse around Labor Day for a week-long stop by an LST ship, which took troops and tanks to Europe during World War II.

Generally, the big boat season on this part of the river lasts from July into October.
