As I See It

Still searching for a Speaker

Whoever said democracy is messy business couldn’t have predicting how much of a mess they are making in the nation’s capital. There is no business being conducted in the House of Representatives because one political party can’t seem to agree on anything among themselves. Especially who they want to represent them. They got rid of Kevin McCarthy, but didn’t seem to have much of a Plan B. Jim Jordan was licking his chops at the possibility of becoming Speaker of the House, but now is licking his wounds. Now there are as many as 9 members of Congress who suddenly want the job, and another vote could come today. But it appears the factions are only digging in, and it is not clear if anyone can get the 217 votes needed. The sharp divisions within the Republican party are widely exposed by the infighting. In the meantime, nothing is getting done. Until there is a Speaker, Congress can’t take up important business, like aid for Israel and Ukraine and diverting a possible government shutdown. Our elected officials seemingly got what they wanted in ousting McCarthy, but they sure have made a mess of things.

“They got rid of Kevin McCarthy”

Ahh, there were many, many, many more Dems who voted to get rid of McCarthy. And if only about 25 or so of them would vote for the Nominee, we would have a Speaker in the House of Representatives.

What’s the rush? How about we take some time and try to get something right in Washington. Havent seen that lately from either party.

At the other extreme we have the likes of Pelosi, who demanded complete allegiance from unthinking dems but singlehandedly did more damage to this country than anyone in decades, excepting only Biden.

Like I said, it was worth the wait to get it right.
