Suspect caught in La Crosse with drugs and a weapon could face decades behind bars if convicted

A Rochester, Minn., man faces new criminal charges in La Crosse County that could lead to almost 80 years in prison, if he’s convicted.

Jayvon Jones-Shields was arrested in La Crosse on Oct. 18 for outstanding warrants. He is now charged with six new criminal counts.

Jones-Shields has felony robbery and drug convictions in Olmsted County from the last four years.

He was captured by La Crosse police as he tried to run on 8th Street near Main Street.

Jones-Shields admitted to having a firearm with him, and officers found him carrying fentanyl, crack and other drugs.

He also faces new criminal charges in the Rochester area.

Bond has been set at $50,000 cash, although the La Crosse County District Attorney’s office had asked for $100,000.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
