As I See It

Government shutdown barely avoided, again

The good news is it appears another government shutdown will be avoided now that the House of Representatives has agreed to a continuing resolution to keep the federal government funded. The bad news is they just keep kicking the can down the road. Congress last avoided a government shutdown just 45 days ago to give themselves time to agree how to best fund the government. But they wasted that time, and again found themselves, at the last minute, just approving continuing resolutions, basically funding government programs at the same level as before. It has become a recurring and familiar crisis. It has been years since Congress actually looked at where all the money goes, and whether it is being spent wisely. They just keep pouring more money at it. Congress needs to take a look at the bigger picture, and implement biennial budgeting so we know our tax dollars are being well spent. And it should pass the bipartisan Preventing Government Shutdowns Act to avoid repeating this broken system of funding government. Appropriately, the latest reprieve from a shutdown only gives Congress until February 2, which just happens to be Groundhog Day. It does seem, like in the movie, Congress is reliving the same thing over and over again.

Our money isn’t being spent wisely. With over 1 trillion dollars in interest being spent just to fund the debt. Cuts to the budget must be made and that is going to take time. Omnibus budgets should be a thing of the past, but it seems like the Democrats are bound and determined to go down that road.

Every week King Joe Biden announces a new multi billion pledge while the deficit spirals out of control .
    The media of course silent.

My, my, the Dems do get a wee bit testy when their spend-o-rama is threatened.

Shut the government down until the deficit and border are addressed.

I agree with everything being said here. The whole speaker of the house issue revolved around all of the frivolous spending bills. That was the basis for Matt G. to oust Speaker McCarty. There should be debate on the floor of the peoples house and not try to force a bill in the 9th hour. I remember the ludicrous comment Pelosi made “have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it”. My boss would fire me if I said you have to write the check so you can find out what I am spending it on….what????
