Downtown La Crosse drive-by shooting suspect found mentally able to be tried in court
The suspect in a downtown La Crosse drive-by shooting last June is reportedly mentally fit to stand trial.
La Crosse County Judge Gloria Doyle was told that Deandrew Grant “does not lack the mental capacity” to be tried for shooting and wounding people on 3rd Street.
Grant faces multiple charges of attempted murder.
Attorneys in the case were not available Wednesday to discuss the finding in court, so Grant has been scheduled for a new hearing on Dec. 13.
Grant faces 29 criminal charges in the late-night gunfire incident on 3rd Street, which wounded seven people back in June.
Police said Grant was driving the wrong way down 3rd, while shooting at people who were outside Polito’s Pizza, where he had been involved in a dispute earlier.
