Fatal stabbing in La Crosse leads to arrest of suspect

A stabbing death near downtown La Crosse has led to an arrest for 1st degree homicide.

City police were called to the 400 block of South 6th Street late Tuesday night, and found a victim with stab wounds. That person later died, and 50-year-old Bryant Q. Smith was arrested and booked in the La Crosse County jail, awaiting a court appearance.

Smith faces a charge of 1st degree intentional homicide. The call came to police around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators consider the stabbing an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.
