Dump truck-car collision near Stoddard kills driver formerly from La Crosse
A former La Crosse woman was killed in a crash on Highway 35, near Stoddard, Wis.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said 47-year-old Laurel Wicks of South Dakota hit the back of a dump truck that had stopped to make a left turn into a driveway.
The crash happened Friday afternoon near Mohawk Valley Road.
Wicks was pronounced dead at the scene, after the accident.
The truck driver, who is from La Crosse, reportedly was yielding to an oncoming traffic.
The sheriff’s office said part of Highway 35 was closed for three hours after the crash.
Vernon County has recorded five traffic deaths this year, matching its totals of 2021 and 2022.

This small stretch of highway has had more then its fair share off accidents. No real reason for it but it is coming into LaCrosse so maybe people are on their phones or texting as they enter the city. Only thing that would explain the number of accidents to me. I have seen a lot of close calls here as I travel it often. I see a lot of people with phones being used along this stretch.
