A trial for the murder of Madeline Kingsbury of Winona will probably happen next fall.

Suspect Adam Fravel appeared before a Winona County judge on Thursday, for a brief hearing. Attorneys have asked for a trial around September or October, to accommodate the schedules of parties involved in the case.

Fravel was the ex-boyfriend of Kingsbury, and the father of her two children. Kingsbury disappeared last March, and her body was found near Mabel, Minnesota in June. Court documents suggest that money may have been a motive in the slaying, indicating that Fravel was dependent on Kingsbury for rent money and other expenses. The couple reportedly was breaking up around the time Kingsbury vanished.

Fravel is charged with two counts each of 1st-degree and 2nd-degree murder in Kingsbury’s death. The young woman’s disappearance led to weeks of searches, and to public vigils organized by family and friends. Fravel has been in jail since Madeline’s remains were discovered.
